Spent the day slumming it, and packing our gear ready for the journey tomorrow.

Brig Amity

Amity was a 148-ton brig used in several notable voyages of exploration and settlement in Australia in the early nineteenth century.

She was built in New Brunswick in 1816 and for some years was used as a merchant vessel trading between America and Britain before being brought to Australia in 1824.

After funding and research had been established, construction of a full sized replica commenced in 1975, with local boat builder Stan Austin as project supervisor and Pieter van de Brugge as leading shipwright.

Albany Silo Art

A 35 metre seadragon mural has been completed on the side of huge grain silos at Albany’s historic waterfront.

The mural created by Yok and Sheryo in Albany depicts a seadragon combining elements from a Ruby seadragon – a species unique to WA first described in 2015 – and “the gossamer tendrils of its leafy cousin.”
