Another day – another tour of a winery. And what a fantastic looking winery it was.

Day 07

Firetail Wines

Later in 2002 we found and bought our dream property, 25 hectares in Rosa Glen, 15km east of Margaret River. Growing on rolling hills of Treeton sandy loam, the Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon vines are fronted by a dam and backed by remanent bush of Jarrah and Marri. The rammed earth family home enjoys views of the vines book ended between the rose garden and tall trees, with magical sunrises and vocal birdlife. The vines grew from cuttings predominantly planted in 1984. Since our purchase, we have focused on improving the quality of the fruit by installing new trellising and irrigation. Our first harvest of Geographe Merlot was in 2003, the year we embarked on winemaking.Rob & Jessica

Voyager Estate

The adventure began with a guided drive through the Estate vineyards – as we learnt about our organic farming methods, unique microclimate and maritime influence, all essential to the distinctive Voyager Estate style.

After that, we visited the Winery, tasted wine straight from the barrel and gained an insight into the philosophy that drives the Voyager Estate winemaking craft.

Once we saw where the wine came from, it was time to taste as we visited the Cellar Door, where we were guided through the range of celebrated Margaret River varietals.

Prevelly Surfers Point

Prevelly was privately subdivided by Geoff Edwards in the early 1960s and named Prevelly; the shire petitioned for a townsite to be declared in 1977 and it was duly gazetted in 1978.

In recent times it has become a fashionable haunt because of its pristine location, the sublime surfing conditions and the arrival of a number of resorts and cafes. It is still underdeveloped and has only a small number of houses spread across the vast sand dunes which rise from the edges of the Indian Ocean.

From Surfer’s Point looking out to the ocean, you will see four surf breaks (5 at a stretch) from left to right.

GraceTown North Point Sunset

North Point North Point is an extremely heavy right-hand reef break. It is located inside of Cowaramup Bay and is overlooked by the small township of Gracetown.
